Here are some images of the ceremonial stole which a friend commissioned me to make.
She has trained to be a non-denominational celebrant and can now host weddings, funerals and births.
It is simple straight forward shape. The pattern and embellishment involved silk screen printing and some free motion embroidery.
Sarah wanted several particularly symbolic phrases to be embroidered onto the stole.
I designed the sunburst pattern for around the back of the neck and another design inspired by corn shieves – a symbol of paths joining – for the bottoms of the stole .
The patterns were printed using gold pigment and the phrases were freehand machine embroidered in gold thread.
The beading weighted the stole nicely and it was backed in natural coloured shantung silk.
